If you’re considering studying English in Australia, then you’re probably thinking about some of the practical steps you’ll need to take. Choosing to come on the correct visa is an important step the process. I’m Anna, the Marketing Director at Langports and I’m here to help you with some of your questions.
I have worked at Langports for just over 12 years and in this time I have met students from over 70+ nationalities. Every student is coming to Langports for different reasons & lengths of study, so as a general guideline, see my table below for choosing visas on study length:
1-12 weeks study – tourist visa
13+ weeks study – student visa
However, it’s not as simple as that! Some of our students, also have access to a Working Holiday Visa or Work and Holiday Visa… these are visas to travel, study & work in Australia and are valid for 1 year. Working Holiday Visa (WHV) holders can study up to 17 weeks (4 months)!
The WHV is available for students 18-30 from the following countries:
• Working Holiday Visa (417) – Belgium, Canada, Republic of Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hong Kong , Republic of Ireland, Italy, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malta, Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, Taiwan, United Kingdom
• Work and Holiday Visa (462) – Argentina, Bangladesh, Chile, China, , Hungary, Indonesia, Israel, Luxembourg, Malaysia, Poland, Portugal, San Marino, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, Spain, Thailand, Turkey, United States of America, Uruguay, Vietnam

If you are applying for a student visa, I strongly recommend reading conditions and document requirements before starting the process. The Department of Immigration and Border Protection have lots of information on their website. We also work with Education Agents around the world who are able to give advice on certain conditions applying to students from different countries.
