Hi guys!
It’s Jo here to tell you about all of the exciting things happening on the Gold Coast at the moment.
Coming up we’ve got the Swell Sculpture festival in Currumbin, the Gold Coast 600 and Gold Coast sevens, just to name a few.
The Swell Sculpture Festival takes place from the 13th to the 22nd of September, along the beautiful beach in Currumbin. Over 50 artists from all over Australia display their work for the public to view. Currumbin is a beautiful beach in itself, so grab a coffee from the Elephant Rock café and enjoy a walk through the amazing sculptures. Currumbin is close to the Coolangatta airport, so it’ll cost you around $5 from Surfers to get there by bus; however there is no charge to view the sculptures. It is definitely worth a look. Personally my favourite time is at sunset — you’ll be able to get some AWESOME photos!
In October, the Gold Coast hosts the Gold Coast Sevens at Skilled Park.. This is part of the HSBC Sevens World Series. Sixteen teams come to the Gold Coast to compete in a fast-paced and entertaining tournament. Rugby sevens is a great game to watch — it is as much about the crowd as it is about the game itself. Spectators turn up dressed in all sorts of attire; last year saw groups of storm troopers, Oompa Loompas and Power Rangers, as well as many many more amusing costumes. This is a great way to experience sport on the Gold Coast. The games are short, so you have heaps of time to soak up the atmosphere.
Race by day and Rock all night is the slogan for the Amoral Gold Coast 600. This is three days of fast cars, fun and excitement. International race car drivers come from all over the world to compete on the streets of Surfers Paradise.
You can be part of the fun in October, from the 25th to the 27th. Tickets start from around $50, but buying a three day pass gives you entry into the evening’s entertainment events as well as full access to the racing, so this is really the way to go. It’s noisy, crazy and heaps of fun, so if you are interested in fast cars, you’ll love this weekend!
There is always some thing going on on the Gold Coast. For all those Brisbane students we are only an hour away on the train. Our beaches alone are worth the trip.
All of these events can be found on the Gold Coast City Council website and of course you can always ask the friendly Langports staff about things happening.
Stay cool! Jo
