Hello everybody. My name is Anna, I’m 18 years old and I come from Liechtenstein.
Going to Australia was always one of my dreams since both of my cousins told me about the amazing time they had when they were on the other side of the globe. Although I was thinking about going to England for a period of time, I finally decided to go the same way as my cousins did. My parents also thought it would be the perfect opportunity for them to visit a country which is so far away.
We started planning everything quite late but on the 19 July my parents, my sister and I were sitting in our plane to Singapore. We spent four days there before we finally headed off to Australia.
We traveled from Sydney to Uluru, Alice Springs, Darwin and to Cairns, where we rented a mobile home and drove down the East Cost till Brisbane. We had such an exciting time, one month with so many marvellous impressions. When we arrived in Brisbane, we knew it was time to say goodbye. It was not easy for me to let them go, but on the other hand I was looking forward to having my own experiences.
There were three weeks between the time when my parents left and the start of my course at Langports. I stayed with a family, who were friends of friends of ours, helped them when I could and they made me feel like I was part of this family. During this time I’ve had the possibility to work as a volunteer in the Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary in Brisbane for one week. It was an interesting experience and although I’m not really an animal person, I had much fun.
I changed my family, one day before I had my first day at Langports in September. I started in the FCE class for one week and had the possibility to change to a higher level after. Now I’m studying in the CAE class and I’m having my exam in December. My aim is to pass this test, meaning I have to reach 60%. I’m a little bit nervous but that I don’t have too much pressure, I’m doing the FCE exam as well. My current host-family is really lovely. I’m glad that my cousin organised that I can live with them because I feel very comfortable here and it’s already like my second home. I don’t really like the fact that it 40 minutes on public transport from the city but I know that you can’t have everything.
At Langports, I met so many people with different nationalities and made some really good friends. We spent much time together and it makes life so much easier if you have people who you can talk with. Together we did some amazing trips, like going to Byron Bay and Noosa and we joined some of the activities from the school where we had great fun. Amongst other things, we went skydiving in Byron Bay, which was awesome. I’ll never forget how I jumped out of the plane.
My wish is to keep in touch with them and to meet them once again.
To come to an end, I’d like to say that I’ve never regretted my decision of going to Australia, I would honestly like to extend my time here and I can recommend it to everyone who wants to learn English and having an unforgettable experience at the same time!
