In today’s blog, we would like to share the profiles of a teacher at our Sydney school, Gen, and our Sydney school Principal Nicole!
Gen Davey
Hobbies: Reading, cinema, painting, travelling.
Position at Langports: Teacher
How long have you been working at Langports? Four weeks teaching IELTS and I am now teaching Cambridge Advanced English Flexi.
What do you like the most about working at Langports? Fantastic facilities, other teachers, support from colleagues, and of course, the students!
How long have you been working in the Education Industry and what do you like the most about working with international students? Since October 2013. I love meeting students and hearing their unique stories about why they’ve chosen to come to Australia to study English.
What have students taught you? So much about their countries and their culture: food, music, education systems, crime, family life, etc.
What is the best advice/tip you can give students about learning another language? Keep trying! Once you’ve reached a high level it can be hard to stay motivated but there’s always so much to learn and rewards to gain.
What would you say to students who are thinking about coming to study English at Langports? Come and join us — you’ll love it!
Nicole Capodieci
Hobbies: Mountain bike rides, trivia, cooking exotic food
Position at Langports: Principal of the Sydney Campus
How long have you been working at Langports? Over 1 year now
What do you like the most about working at Langports? The people and the atmosphere. We have a wonderful team and the best students in the world. School wide activities are my favourite!
How long have you been working in the Education Industry and what do you like the most about working with international students? I have worked for over 7 years in management of the education industry and I can still learn from our international students, their culture, and their stories.
What have students taught you? Students teach me every day. One of the steepest learning curves we get is on international day. It is a deliciously educational experience! I have also tried to make many of the dishes that students have brought in.
Do you have a remarkable experience that you would like to share with us? I enjoy talking to students about etymology, which is the study of the origin of words. A lot of great trivia knowledge comes out of that. Often the meaning / true sense is funny and it makes you never forget about that word again.
As an example: An Italian student told me that back in the day outside of Rome ther was an inn/tavern at the intersection of the three main roads leading to/away from the city. People would gather there, drink, and talk about the inconsequential happenings of the day. The inn was named for the fact that it was at this confluence of these three roads (three = tri, road = via): TriVia!
What is the best advice/tip you can give students about learning another language? The best advice I can give is to overcome your fear of making mistakes and practice. If you join our activities, you will have so much fun that you don’t even realise how much you learn!
What would you say to students who are thinking about coming to study English at Langports? This experience will enrich your lives, enhance your language abilities, and boost the contacts you are making for life. Our new Langports family would be excited to meet you and together we can have an amazing time and enjoy beautiful Sydney together.
THANK YOU! 🙂
